Newb - Betting Strategy Question

Hey guys,

I am somewhat new to sports betting as you can probably tell by the question I am about to ask.... I'm sure there is a reason this won't work, I just need someone to tell me....

Example:

Bet #1 What if you parlay tonights MNF game to take Bears +14 and Under 53.5 for 5 units

Bet #2 Put in another bet for alternative point spread of over 53.5 at + 200 for 2.5 units

If Bet #1 hits, I essentially win half of my bet because i lost the 2nd bet. If bet #2 wins, I break even. The only way you lose is if the Bears get stomped....

Can someone tell me the potential downfalls to this? Thanks!

I dislike bets where 1 wins, 1 loses. In other words, if its impossible to win both, don't do it.

Like Akillies said, Bet #1 is a teaser, so you're laying 6 units to win 5. So overall you're laying 8.5 to win 2.5 at best or 8.5 to lose 1unit if the Bears would have gotten pounded. Why not just bet an alternate line on the Bears +14? I didn't see it, but I doubt it would have been worse odds than -340 (8.5/2.5).

Finding value is always a key when betting sports. I'm new to this site, but have been gambling for a long time. Parlays and Teasers exist because the Books make money on them. If you want to win long-term, just bet straight. It's not as sexy as parlays or as fun as teasing, but it's the smart way to do it...

Dont forget to line shop. If you can help it never lay more than -110 on any wager and if you really feel the dog will win, dont be afraid to take the dog outright. Teasers and parlays are sucker bets, try to stay away if possible.
